Not only do they serve as a healthy ingredient for quick and delicious treats, but they are also great for your body. Keep reading for the benefits of blueberries and some possible snack ideas!
1. Packed with Minerals and Vitamins
Blueberries are nutrient-dense and are great sources of vitamins. In fact, just one cup of them provides 24% of the recommended intake of vitamin C and vitamin K. Both vitamins are extremely beneficial—vitamin C helps your body repair and grow tissues in your body, and vitamin K produces proteins to help with blood clotting and bone growth.
Not only do they provide major vitamins, blueberries also carry important minerals such as manganese and potassium. Manganese assists in wound healing, and potassium helps maintain normal levels of fluid inside our cells while helping our muscles contract. By eating blueberries, you are providing your body with the ability to stay healthy and function properly.
2. Rich in Antioxidants
Antioxidants help your body combat against damaging molecules, and blueberries are full of them. These fruits are known for their high concentration of antioxidants like anthocyanin, pigments found in various plants. By supplying antioxidants, blueberries help fight off harmful and unstable molecules to reduce stress and protect cells from damage. This helps lower the risk of chronic diseases like cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, and heart disease.

Research evidence has suggested that blueberry consumption may have benefits towards cognitive function. For example, scientists discovered that healthy older adults who drank concentrated blueberry juice every day displayed an increase in brain activity and memory compared to a placebo group. Blueberries have also been associated with a reduced risk of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.
